Wat Phrasing Woramahavihara
Wat Phrasing is a temple for those born in year of the big snake and is one of the most important sites in Chiang Mai. Built 655 years ago, it houses a famous Buddha statue, the Phra Buddha Sing which is located in the Lai Kham Chapel. This is an ancient gilded chapel with delicate wood carvings and northern style murals. It was brought here during the reign of the eighth king of the Mangrai lineage.
The temple was previously called Wat Leechiangphra and this was changed to its current name due to the Buddha statute.
Visit during Songkran (the traditional Thai New Year) to witness a ceremony where the Buddha statue is paraded through city. Appreciate the murals, many outstanding pieces of arts and the Lanna architecture.
